Yoon Ji Seon (born 1975 in Seoul) uses an array of techniques in her portraiture, for instance adding sewing to her self-portraits–distorting her face with rhythmic quilting stitches whose lines recall painting–or using handmade paper. Reminiscent of archaic masks, these works deconstruct human appearance and create chimeras–some humorous, some nightmarish.
