Publisher's description
Before the beginning of the Second Intifadah in 2000, Efrat Shvily, an Israeli-born photographer, started work on the series Palestinian Cabinet Ministers, portraits of the ministers of the Palestinian Authority. Due to the continuing escalation of the conflicts in the West Bank and the Occupied Territories, the series remains indefinitely incomplete. Palestinian Cabinet Ministers can be understood as a companion to Shvily’s series New Homes in Israel and the Occupied Territories (also published this season by Witte de With), which examines the relation Israelis have with the territory they share with other people. But where the latter series questions Israel’s love for the ground, the former questions Israel’s capacity to respect other people living on that same ground.
