Come Closer is about my love for a woman, her name is Paola.

We fell in love four years ago. Ever since I have felt the urge to photograph her every day. As part of this series, you will find mostly color and black-and-white 35mm pictures accompanied by polaroids, notes, and contact sheets, but it also features videos.

The work feels like an intimate conversation between her and me. I am an observer trying to grasp every playful moment, every moment of connection. Seeing someone so versatile and constantly changing, I tend to overload her with my presence. And then there is her, my subject, someone who feels more like a muse to me. Loving me like no one ever did.

About Dinaya
Dinaya Waeyaert is a Belgian artist based in Brussels. After finishing her education at the School of Arts Ghent in 2018, she self-published her first book Personal Collection.

Ever since Waeyaert started photographing she focused on people who were closest to her. The ones that she’s known for a long time or the ones that she feels drawn to. When we grow older our relationships with the people around us evolve. Waeyaert feels the need to hold on to this by making images. Already now when she looks back at all the pictures she’s taken, it feels like a family album where everyone, even herself, changes every day.

Dinaya Waeyaert takes a lot of pictures. Every series she’s made is built around a great deal of images. This is a certain obsessive way of working I have always loved.

Other editions
The Special Edition of Come Closer includes the book and the limited edition print from the series, featured in the book. The print is signed and numbered on the back, printed in an edition of 10 copies, 20 x 30 cm, on matt paper. Both print and the book are held inside the black envelope, which bears a digital polaroid print (not original) on the cover, and a hand-written title. Every envelope is unique and features a different polaroid (get in touch with us to choose the one you like most).
